It will be 120 years since North Hagley Park was taken over by a great temporary structure to house the 1906 Christchurch International Exhibition. Today, that part of the park still gets used for various events involving temporary structures, but nothing like what they did in 1906.
Member Edward Fairbrass has an extensive collection of philatelic material from this exhibition and to mark the 120 years will be showing us some of that. Edward has exhibited on many occasions and continues to add to his collection (don’t we all?) so there will be new and interesting material that we will be shown.
Next time you drive down Park Terrace and perhaps head off into the Armagh Street carparking area in the park, try to image this 3 storey timber structure that we’ve used to illustrate this meeting standing there, mind boggling …..
