Changing Times


A building entrance with a decorative metal screen that includes two golden post horns and the text “Post en Telegraaf” makes it pretty obvious what the use of the building is or was. Now an empty building, this image comes from the town of Roosendaal in the Netherlands. If you want to post items there now, you need to go to the nearby Jumbo supermarket.  We don’t need to go around the planet to find these examples. Here in St. Albans, we need to go to the Fresh Choice supermarket these days, but the old Edgeware Post Office is gone, closed down, reused for a period and then demolished after the 2010-11 earthquake cycle. The difference is we’re not as good at keeping old. We always have a reason to get rid of things old….
